SOAR TO SUCCESS is a research-based, reading intervention program offered by the Houghton Mifflin Company. Fast-paced lessons are accomplished daily in 45-minute instructional blocks and incorporate authentic, high-interest literature. Soar to Success: Reading is an intensive reading intervention program that uses quality literature, proven strategies, and powerful graphic organizers to accelerate reading growth. The parks and recreation management program provides an interdisciplinary education in the management of parks, protected areas and community-based recreation services and special event management. Students learn to integrate the managerial, natural and social sciences to make informed decisions for recreation service delivery. The curriculum combines classroom instruction with field experiences and covers parks and recreation policy, programming, planning, management, communication, inclusive services and history. The PRM program prepares students for professional positions in a variety of public, private and nonprofit organizations. Our undergraduate major in parks and recreation management is accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Related Professions (COAPRT). COAPRT is, in turn, accredited by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). This academic program also offers a concentration in therapeutic recreation. Today, the recreation related professions represent a diverse field focusing on the role of leisure in youth and adult development, or parks/open space to community quality of life, or leisure, sports and natural resource tourism to economic and community development, and providing human services in meeting community needs. These professions address challenges related to providing accessible leisure services, visitor opportunities, environmental quality of life, social problems and services to disadvantaged populations. The school is committed to training professionals dedicated to the parks and recreation professions, building a sense of community and enhancing the quality of life in today's society. Opportunities in the field The academic programs in parks and recreation management prepare students for professional positions in a variety of public, private and nonprofit organizations.
